Mac users: how do I increase my java memory?

Since the launch of Java 6 a year ago, Java developers have had the ability to use as much memory as their applications needed. At least, this is true for Windows and Linux. Mac users have been left behind in this regard and still have an absolute cap on their web java memory.

Here’s a quick and easy guide to help mac users avoid those annoying out of java memory errors.

Step 1:

Go to: Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and run it

Step 2:

Select one of the java options in the upper list and then click options

Step 3:

Type -Xmx512m in the text window then click OK

repeat steps 2 and 3 for all of your java options in the upper list. This includes 32bit and 64bit. Unlike my pictures you may in fact only have 2 in your list.
